Two Carte-de-visite’s

Two Carte-de-visite’s – (2.5 x 4 inches)

Image (a) is of an actress dressed in Indian attire. She is wearing an Iroquois beaded bag with elongated leaf clusters. This image was part of a larger group of CDVs by the same photographer that featured theatrical actors. The photographers’ blind stamp on the back says Reiterman, Toledo, Ohio - June 1, 1865. Bags that appear in theatrical images were likely used as props and may be somewhat earlier than the date of the image.

Image (b) is of a young boy and girl who were possibly siblings. The bag is similar to the one in image (a). The photographer was Hanson Jones from Hillsboro, Illinois. Circa 1860.
